Wison Honored for Innovative Energy-saving Technologies

Two energy-saving technologies self-developed by Wison, i.e. ""Reducing the Viscosity of Two Quench Oil Systems with One Visbreaker"" and ""A Set of Technologies for Energy Conservation in Coal-to-methanol Process "", have been recognized by the industry and have been granted the ""Energy Conservation Contribution Award"" and the ""Outstanding Award for Energy Efficiency Project"" at the Conference on Energy Conservation Technology Exchange, Investment, and Financing of the Petroleum and Chemical Industry jointly organized by China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association and China Chemical Industry Energy Conservation Association in recent days.
 

In consideration of that many quench oil systems of China's ethylene plants are confronted with operation difficulties such as high viscosity of quench oil, low temperature of quench oil column, high column top temperature, low dilution steam generation, and excessive supplementary medium-pressure steam, all of which may result in high comprehensive energy consumption of ethylene plants and excessive process sewage, Wison has designed different technological processes for different plants based on conventional visbreaking process. For example, Wison has designed an appropriate technological process and solution for Daqing 600kta ethylene plant according to the short distance between the old area and new area of the plant. Wison's technological innovation has enabled Daqing ethylene plant to achieve excellent energy conservation performance and reduce the plant's operation costs. After its completion, the project successfully started up in August 2010 and has been in a stable running state ever since. All indexes of the plant have achieved, and some even have exceeded, the designed targets. The technological innovation satisfactorily solved the problems of high energy consumption and instable running state that are commonly seen in plants of the same type in China. This technology, featuring ""the utilization of cracking gas from ethane or propane cracking furnace as stripping media and the establishment of a visbreaker to serve two quench oil systems"" and adopted in China for the first time, requires small investment in equipment and can achieve remarkable results. In addition to its appropriate technological process, another element that contributes to the success of this quench oil visbreaking design is the accurate partition and correct simulation of heavy end compositions. Taking characteristics of the plant units into consideration, the design summarized all analysis data and, by adopting a ""visbreaker technology which uses cracking gas from ethane cracking furnace as stripping media"", effectively reduced the viscosity of quench oil. With the reduction of viscosity, temperature of the quench oil is automatically adjusted up; as a result, the generation of dilution steam is also increased. In the meantime, the discharge of process sewage is effectively cut down because the reduction of supplemented medium-pressure steam, thus achieving significant energy conservation and emission reduction results. 
 

Another technology of Wison that has been recognized by the industry, the technology for energy conservation in coal-to-methanol process, is innovative in that it adopts pinch technology in the heat exchanger network to carry out integrated analysis and optimization of the entire coal-to-methanol process, thereby realizing the goals of minimizing designed energy consumption and resources consumption of the whole plant. Through the application of pinch technology in process optimization, this technology enables accurate diagnosis of weak links in energy utilization, definite identification of causes of irrational energy utilization, revelation of realizable energy conservation potential and reform results, and proposing of feasible and effective optimization solutions. This technology has been unanimously recognized by a great number of users and recommended by the government and associations. It has been learnt that part of the achievements of the technology for energy conservation in coal-to-methanol process has been applied in the engineering design of the ""400kta Coal-to-methanol project of Ordos Guotai Chemical Co., Ltd."". Presently, the project is under construction.
