Wison Group Sponsored Special Exhibition at the United Nations by Sculptor Wu Weishan

Release time:2012-09-08

Wison Holding (Group) Co. Ltd., a  Chinese private  cooperation edicated to energy services and high-tech industries, has recently sponsored a Special Exhibition at the United Nations, entitled “Sculpting the Soul of a Nation" —An International Touring Exhibition of the Art of the acclaimed contemporary Chinese sculptor Wu Weishan.

Since its establishment, the Wison Group has set itself the ultimate goal of creating social value and promoting the harmonious development of human life and the natural environment, as it maintains the belief that the fusion of technology and art can not only stimulate innovative ideas but also be condensed into every project and product that is offered  to society. On this basis, and alongside the rapid development of its business, Wison has long been actively involved in supporting art and cultural exchange activities, and in 2005 founded the Wison Art Center, a non-profit organization. This latest sponsorship is an effort by the Wison Group to promote outstanding Chinese contemporary art in the world.

For decades, Wu Weishan has made a remarkable and lasting contribution to Chinese culture, both through his role as founder of the Chinese Academy of Sculpture and Director of the Academy of Fine Arts at Nanjing University, and through his oeuvre – in particular, his famous depictions of culturally prominent figures. He has focused on developing a unique, modern impressionist style of sculpture through continuous exploration and practice. This exhibition featured 39 of his sculptures, under three main themes: important cultural figures in Chinese history, including Confucius and Laozi; motherhood; and memory of the victims of the Nanjing Massacre.

The body of work featured in the exhibition expresses a mixed sense of harmony, beauty, kindness, and hope for peace, along with the notion that peace lays within the core of the human psyche. It focused on the ideal of the artist being in the heart of his own culture, sculpting its true meaning  and “soul”.

The event was co-hosted by the Chinese Ministry of Culture and the Permanent Mission of the People's Republic of China to the United Nations and was held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from September 3 to 7. The exhibition was attended by United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the People's Republic of China to the United Nations Li Baodong, President of the National Committee on United States-China Relations Stephen A. Orlins, and the Chinese Consul General in New York, Sun Guoxiang. In addition, eminent artists and personalities from various circles, including the American cultural education sector and the business community also visited the exhibition. The Wison Group was involved in the event organization as the event sponsor.
