Wison Engineering Participated in the 2011 Economic Symposium of Coal-to-Olefins (CTO) Technology

November 16, 2011, Shanghai - Wison Engineering was invited to present at the "2011 Economic Symposium of Coal-to-Olefins Technology" hosted by ASIACHEM. Mr. Li Yansheng, Technical Director of Wison Engineering Ltd., gave a speech on “The Domestic Application of Advanced Methanol to Olefins (MTO) Technology and Economic Analysis of its Downstream Products”, causing widely concern within the industry.
 

In the Oxo (butyl-octyl alcohol) project launched by Wison Engineering earlier this year, a new MTO technology was used, enabling Wison Energy to further extend its industrial products chain and to offer higher quality chemical raw materials. Given that China has abundant coal resources, but lacks oil and gas, Li Yansheng suggests that the advanced MTO technology has opened up the possibility to produce basic organic chemical raw materials from coal or natural gas.“This is the most promising method to replace the conventional way of producing olefins from petroleum-based raw materials and is also an effective means to achieve extensive development of the coal chemical industry to the petrochemical industry.”said by Li Yangsheng.
 

Wison independently developed the MTO separation technology for the Oxo project, which uses a pre-cut and oil absorption technology—a simple process, low investment and low energy consumption—and replaces the conventional cryogenic demethanizer systems. In the reaction stage, applying Honeywell’s advanced MTO technology can produce high value-added, high-volume plastics and petrochemical products by substituting petroleum with methanol, increasing the output of usable ethylene and propylene.
 

The new MTO technology, a combination and co-optimization of Wison’s advanced separation technology and UOP’s advanced reaction technology, further reduces energy consumption of devices in line with national energy saving policies and reduces the discharge of three waste (waste gas,waste water and waste residue).Furthermore, the extensive experience of UOP in design of fluidized bed reactors, the rich experience of Wison in design of olefin separation and proven experience of Total in the operation of MTO/OCP (olefins cracking process) demonstration plants can guarantee a safe and stable long-term operation.
 

Li Yansheng explained that combination of carbon four olefin and by-product of MTO plants, can produce butadiene. As the outcome, relatively inexpensivehybrid carbon four olefins can be converted into high-value butadiene products, bringing significant economic benefits to customers.
